Nana Addo

Name: Nana Addo

Why did you start spelling? I started spelling in second grade because I wanted to see if I could win. I’m a pretty competitive person, so I take any opportunity to win given.

Which Scripps bees did you participate in? I participated in the 2017 Scripps National Spelling Bee.

What was/were your losing word(s)? I was eliminated because I didn’t score high enough on the preliminary written test, but I spelled all of my words correctly.

How did you calm your nerves while participating? I looked at the national bee as if it was any other bee. Making the event seem smaller than it actually is allowed me to participate as if there was no pressure.

How did you study? I studied using Hexco vocabulary resources and a Webster’s online dictionary.

Did you enjoy your time at the Bee Week(s), if so what did you enjoy the most? Bee Week was a blast. My most favorite part was meeting new friends, visiting new places, and seeing family.

If any, what advice would you give to aspiring spellers? Stay dedicated and take it one word at a time!
